Dissociative Identity Disorder

Dissociative Identity Disorder can in summary be understood as Dissociation In Distress, considering that it is a unique survival technique that God designed to preserve life in situations of unbearable abuse, trauma and/or distress. When enduring and surviving the blows of repeated or continuous abuse and violence the mind is as a chunk of wood on the chopping block. The swinging axe is the deadly abuse, and the hand swinging it is the perpetrator.Every time the axe strikes there is damage done to the whole piece of wood. At a certain point of impact after repeated blows, the wood will split into an entirely separate piece of wood with its own shape and identity. This is a picture of what can happen with the mind of an abuse victim under theimpacting blows of abuse. When it reaches a certain point of its endurance it can split into a separate identity of memory and consciousness. This pieceholds certain aspects of the abuse, such as the memory, pain, and/or otherdetails of threats, filth, or shame.Because God created the mind with the capability of splitting while in a survival stance we know He is also capable of bringing healing to individuals who are split up like a piece of wood. He cares for each broken-off piece, for each one helps make up the whole of His wounded child. Each separate piece must be accepted and validated in order for complete healing to take place in the survivor as a whole.
